Six-year-old girl injured in stray dog attack in Rajendranagar

Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl was injured after being attacked by stray dogs in Golden Heights Colony, Rajendranagar, on Friday, January 31, 2025. This incident was caught on camera.
The girl was seen playing on the road when the dogs brutally attacked her. Hearing her cry, neighbors came to rescue her, chased the dogs away, and rushed her to the hospital for treatment.
This incident has raised concerns over the growing number of stray dog attacks in the city. Earlier, in May 2024, another young girl was bitten by a stray dog in the Khizra Enclave area of Manikonda. The girl was playing when the dog attacked, but an elderly man intervened and saved her. She received six injections at the hospital following the attack.
Residents of Manikonda expressed outrage over the increasing number of dog attacks and questioned the safety of children in the area. They demanded more decisive action from local authorities and criticized the Manikonda municipality for its inaction.
The issue of stray dog attacks is not limited to one or two areas. In Ramnagar Colony, Ghatkesar, a four-year-old boy was nearly attacked by a group of stray dogs while playing outside his house. His father intervened and chased the dogs away, saving the child.
In another tragic incident, six-year-old Vishal was mauled to death by stray dogs near a dump yard in Isnapur, Patancheru. The boy’s parents, who were working nearby, were unable to prevent the attack. Vishal died from his injuries at the scene.
Residents questioned the municipality’s efforts to control the stray dog population, asking whether regular sterilization programs and proper waste disposal measures were in place. They also called for the implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program, which involves sterilizing, spaying, and neutering dogs to reduce their numbers and curb aggressive behavior. Residents believe such measures would improve safety and animal welfare while reducing incidents of dog attacks.
Earlier, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) urged residents to report stray dog infestations, promising to send teams to capture and sterilize the dogs. In a tweet, the GHMC provided contact numbers 040-21111111 and 040-232253975 for immediate assistance, reassuring citizens that complaints would be addressed promptly.
However, some residents have expressed doubts about the effectiveness of these measures, particularly the practice of releasing sterilized dogs back into the same areas. They raised concerns that this could lead to recurring problems with stray dogs.
