Why the SIR Electoral Roll Revision Is Moving Slowly Across Medak District
HYDERABAD: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls may be moving quickly in some districts, but the process has slowed across the combined Medak district. Confusion, uneven distribution of forms and procedural hurdles have led to complaints from voters.
Election officials say Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are distributing application forms door-to-door. However, many residents dispute this. They claim several BLOs are staying at one location and asking people to collect the forms instead of visiting every household.
Residents estimate that officials have reached fewer than half of the eligible voters in several areas. They fear many people could miss the exercise if the pace does not improve.
Residents question implementation
In Sangareddy district, including Lakshminagar in Kandi mandal, residents alleged that some BLOs asked voters to visit their homes to collect application forms. They said officials continue to hold review meetings and issue instructions, but field-level monitoring remains weak.
Residents also warned that delays in form distribution could leave many eligible voters out of the revision process.
Language and documents add to challenges
Language has also become a concern. Faisal, a resident, said many Muslim voters in Sangareddy, Sadasivapet, Zaheerabad, Medak and Narsapur would find it easier to complete the process if officials provided application forms in Urdu along with Telugu and English.
Officials also pointed to documentation issues. Many voters could not provide details of their 2002 electoral records. As a result, they have kept the forms pending until they obtain the required information.
