Singareni, TGGENCO plan 75,500-tonne daily coal supply to power plants

Singar

HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited and Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO) have prepared an action plan to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to thermal power plants amid increased electricity demand associated with El Niño conditions.

A special coordination meeting chaired by Singareni CMD Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti and TGGENCO CMD Dr. S. Harish was held through video conference on Tuesday evening. The meeting set a daily coal supply target of 75,500 tonnes.

Singareni Area General Managers, chief engineers of TGGENCO power plants and senior officials of both organisations attended the meeting. They reviewed plant-wise coal requirements, current supplies, coal quality, railway rake availability, loading and unloading operations and transportation issues.

Plan envisages 56,000 tonnes by rail and 19,500 tonnes by road

The meeting discussed a plan to supply 56,000 tonnes of coal a day through 14 railway rakes and 19,500 tonnes by road.

The plant-wise requirements discussed were 24,000 tonnes a day for Kothagudem, 4,500 tonnes for Kakatiya, 15,000 tonnes for Bhadradri and 34,000 tonnes for Yadadri.

For Yadadri, officials drew up a plan to transport 8,000 tonnes a day through two rakes from the Naini coal block in Odisha and 36,000 tonnes through six rakes from Singareni’s local mines.

Singareni officials said steps were being taken to increase supplies from Naini.

Coal supply to TGGENCO up 31% from corresponding period last year

Singareni’s marketing department said it had supplied 15.02 lakh tonnes of coal to TGGENCO power plants through road and rail up to September 28.

During the corresponding period last September, the supply was 11.44 lakh tonnes. The increase was 3.58 lakh tonnes, or about 31%, officials said.

TGGENCO officials said electricity demand had increased due to dry conditions associated with El Niño. They said additional coal was needed to support higher power generation.

The meeting asked the concerned Area General Managers and chief engineers to resolve coal supply, transportation and receipt-related issues through close coordination.

Officials were asked to exchange information daily through phone calls and WhatsApp groups, arrange the required railway rakes and speed up loading and unloading.

Both organisations agreed to work together to maintain continuous supplies of quality coal and prevent disruptions to power generation in the state.

Officials said this was the first joint coordination review involving the chief engineers of TGGENCO power plants and the Singareni Area General Managers responsible for supplying coal to them.

Singareni Directors L.V. Suryanarayana (Operations) and K. Venkateswarlu (Projects and Planning), GM (Coordination and Marketing) T. Srinivas, TGGENCO chief engineers and Singareni Area General Managers attended the meeting.
