Forest officials track tiger pugmarks in Siddipet villages after cattle killings

HYDERABAD: An elusive tiger killed cattle in three villages of Siddipet mandal over the weekend, alarming farmers and putting forest officials on high alert.

The big cat attacked livestock in Ghanapur, Akkenapally and Baswapuram villages on Saturday night. In Ghanapur, it killed a calf owned by farmer Bal Reddy. The animals had been tied near an agricultural field on Friday evening.

On Sunday morning, the farmer discovered one calf dead and another badly injured inside the cattle shed. Soon after, the tiger moved north towards Akkenapally and Baswapuram. It killed more cattle in those villages, officials said.

After receiving information from villagers, forest officials rushed to the affected areas and began tracking the animal. Teams followed pugmarks to trace its movement.

The department has started installing camera traps at sites where cattle were killed. Officials said the move would help monitor the tiger and prevent further losses.

Forest staff have stepped up surveillance in nearby villages. Officials have also advised residents to stay alert, especially during night hours.
