ACB officials escort arrested sub-inspector in bribery case in Karimnagar

TELANGANA: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on March 23, 2026 arrested a sub-inspector of police in connection with an alleged bribery case involving the release of a sand-loaded lorry.

The accused officer was identified as Vurlugonda Venkateshwarlu, son of Subbaiah. He earlier served as station house officer at Mustabad police station in Rajanna Sircilla district and is currently posted in Siddipet Commissionerate.

Bribe demand reduced from ₹20,000 to ₹15,000

According to an ACB press note, the officer allegedly demanded ₹20,000 through a police constable to show official favour in releasing a lorry belonging to the complainant. The amount was later reduced to ₹15,000.

The bribe was allegedly accepted through the constable via a Google Pay transaction sent from the complainant’s friend, officials said. The constable, identified asB. Satyanarayana, is presently on sick leave.

Officer produced before special court, probe continues

ACB officials stated that the sub-inspector was taken into custody at the office of the deputy superintendent of police, ACB, Karimnagar. He was later produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Karimnagar.

The case was registered on February 28, 2026 and is under investigation. Details of the complainant have been withheld for security reasons.

The ACB urged citizens to report instances of bribery by public servants through its toll-free number 1064 or via official social media channels. Officials said the identity of complainants would be kept confidential.
