News in short:
Residents of Hyderabad are calling for extended evening hours at Lotus Pond Park, citing the current 4pm to 6pm timeframe as insufficient for families and children. Riyaz, a resident, took to social media to request an extension to 9pm, arguing that the short hours make it difficult for families to visit after work or school. Another resident, Sai Teja, echoed this sentiment, noting that the evening rush hour adds to the congestion and that the demand for park visits will increase as summer approaches. The call for extended hours comes as more families seek out outdoor spaces, and citizens are urging the GHMC Mayor and zonal commissioner to consider the public demand.
Concerns grow over short park timings in Hyderabad as summer approaches

Hyderabad: Citizens in Hyderabad have raised concerns over the limited hours of Lotus Pond Park, particularly the short evening hours, which many feel are insufficient for families and children. The current hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the morning and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the evening.

The issue was highlighted by Riyaz, a resident, on the social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter. In his post addressed to GHMC Mayor Vijayalaxmi Gadwal and other relevant officials, Riyaz requested an extension of the park’s evening timings from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

He argued that with only two hours of evening access, many families struggle to visit the park after work or school, particularly those with children. Riyaz pointed out that parks across the city generally operate 4 to 6 hours a day while being closed for the remaining 18 hours.

His post read, “Dear Mayor @gadwalvijayainc, please increase the park hours in Hyderabad. Only two hours in the evening is really less. Please change the hours from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.”

Another resident, Sai Teja, echoed similar concerns with the Hyderabad Mail. He noted that the current timings are insufficient to accommodate children, office-goers, and elders, especially as the evening rush hour creates additional traffic around the park.

Sai Teja also pointed out that the demand for park visits will increase with summer approaching and schools soon to close for holidays. He called on the GHMC Mayor and the zonal commissioner to consider extending the park hours to serve the public better.

“As the GHMC is currently allowing just two hours in the evening, it is not enough, especially for children coming from school and families after work. This causes congestion and makes it difficult for everyone to enjoy the park,” Teja said.

The public demand for extended park hours has gained attention as more families and children look for outdoor spaces to visit. The request comes before summer when people are expected to visit parks more frequently for recreation.

Some popular parks in Hyderabad include Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park, Biodiversity Park, Indira Park, and NTR Gardens. However, many citizens feel that the limited operating hours are restrictive and would like to see changes in the schedule.
