Shivraj Singh Chouhan Is Targeting Telangana Congress

HYDERABAD: Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday accused the Congress of disrespecting the public mandate after electoral defeats.

He also alleged that the party was undermining democratic institutions.

Chouhan said the Congress had taken a different stand on the Election Commission after winning and losing elections. He alleged that the party accepted the poll panel when it won but questioned it after defeats.

“At Rahul Gandhi’s behest, Mallikarjun Kharge labelled the Prime Minister and the Home Minister as illegitimate,” Chouhan said.

He called the remarks an insult to the democratic mandate and constitutional institutions.

Chouhan also criticised the Congress demand for elections through ballot papers. He referred to polling booth violence and alleged misuse of ballot papers during the 1980s and 1990s.

“Does the Congress wish to drag the country back to that era?” he asked. He also questioned the party’s opposition to the use of technology in elections.

The Union minister cited the Emergency as another example of what he described as the Congress’s record on democracy.

Chouhan said people would continue to respond to such actions through their votes. He also alleged that the Congress’s “nefarious designs and intentions” would not succeed.
