Considering the safety aspected of women travellers, the Hyderabad Police have posted SHE teams on the metro trains and stations in the city. Thousands of women commute in metro trains daily for work and personal work. Some coaches are reserved exclusively for women, still many are forced to enter general compartments due to overcrowding.
Hyderabad metro trains are equipped with CCTV cameras. The Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities are keeping an eye on the activities on the trains, platforms and the metro stations.
Despite the sufficient surveillance infrastructure in place, the SHE teams will provide an added layer of security to prevent women travellers from eve-teasers who may take the benefit of rush hour traffic and overcrowding in the coaches.
During the Ganesh festival, the SHE teams detained 285 men for harassing female devotees who were visiting to see the Ganesh idol kept at Khairatabad. The number of arrests in a span of 7 days from a single location was astonishing. This shows that eve-teasers target crowded places to misbehave with with young girls and women thinking that the CCTV cameras may not capture everything. However, SHE teams filled this gap and ensured round-the-clock safety and protection shields to the women devotees.
