Hyderabad: SHE Teams registered 14 first information reports (FIRs) and secured multiple convictions in December as part of intensified enforcement and awareness drives to ensure women’s safety across the city, police said on January 5, 2026.

98 complaints received; 13 offenders caught red-handed

According to a press note issued by SHE Teams, 98 petitions were received during December through WhatsApp, direct petitions and social media. Of these, 29 complaints were referred to police stations 14 resulted in FIRs, while 15 remain pending for further legal action.

Field surveillance, decoy operations and technical monitoring led to the apprehension of 13 offenders caught red-handed, including 11 adults and two minors. Seven others were warned and let off after counselling in the presence of family members. Nine cases were booked as petty cases for serious misconduct.

Courts award jail terms and fines

Legal action culminated in three convictions with seven days’ simple imprisonment and fine, one conviction with four days’ jail and fine, one with two days’ jail, and three convictions with fine alone, police said.

Among notable cases, an engineering student complained that a Rapido rider saved her number after a ride and harassed her with repeated calls and abusive messages. SHE Teams apprehended the accused and booked a petty case under Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 70(c) of the City Police Act. The X Special Judicial Magistrate, Nampally, sentenced the accused to seven days’ simple imprisonment and a ₹250 fine.

In another case, a degree student reported stalking and an attempted assault by a neighbour, identified as T. Soul Raju, 45. He was apprehended, booked under the same provisions, and sentenced to seven days’ simple imprisonment with a ₹500 fine.

A third case involved online exploitation and blackmail after contact through Instagram. The accused, Y. Sai Trinath, 28, was apprehended and sentenced to seven days’ simple imprisonment with a ₹500 fine. In a separate complaint of abusive messages and online harassment, K. Sumanth Sai Kumar, 35, received four days’ simple imprisonment and a ₹250 fine.

Awareness drives scaled up across city

Beyond enforcement, SHE Teams conducted 188 awareness programmes in schools, colleges and public places, 1,045 observation drives in crowded and sensitive areas, and 234 audio-visual vehicle campaigns across Hyderabad during the month.

Police urged citizens to beware of fake online profiles, avoid oversharing personal information, secure accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and report harassment promptly. Victims were assured confidentiality, swift action and legal support.
