HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Police have formed seven specialised “She Netra” teams to tackle the misuse of hidden cameras and safeguard women’s privacy across the city.

Each team has been deployed in one of the seven zones under the commissionerate. The initiative targets surveillance threats in hotels, malls, hostels, educational institutions and commercial establishments.

The teams have undergone two-phase training in the use of advanced camera detectors and standard operating procedures for inspections.

Crackdown on hidden surveillance devices in public places

Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar handed over the camera detector equipment to the teams at a programme held on Friday at the old commissionerate office in Bashirbagh.

He said the police would act firmly against incidents involving hidden cameras in trial rooms, hospitals, hotels and hostels. “These teams will conduct intensive surprise inspections using technology,” he added.

Institutions held accountable for ensuring privacy compliance

The commissioner said managements of all establishments are responsible for ensuring that no hidden cameras are installed in private areas on their premises.

He warned that strict criminal cases would be registered in instances of negligence or violations. Authorities may also blacklist institutions and take action against responsible staff if required.

He advised institutions to appoint a “Customer Safety In-Charge” to coordinate with the police. These personnel will receive training under police supervision, and managements are expected to procure camera detectors and conduct regular checks.

Public urged to report suspicious devices immediately

Calling women’s safety a collective responsibility, Sajjanar urged the public to report suspicious devices through Dial 100/112 or the She Teams helpline at 9490616555.
