Long-awaited Shastripuram ROB in Hyderabad ready, likely to open soon

HYDERABAD: After nearly four years of construction, the Shastripuram road-over-bridge (ROB) in the Old City is ready. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will open it to traffic soon. Officials said workers will complete the remaining service road works within a week, as reported by DC.
Bridge to ease railway crossing bottleneck
GHMC started the 490-metre ROB project in 2022 in coordination with South Central Railway. The project cost about ₹71 crore.
Authorities built the bridge to reduce traffic congestion at the railway level crossing in Uddamgadda. Vehicles often faced long delays at the crossing.
The route serves as an important link for commuters travelling towards National Highway-44, the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Residents expect relief before Ramzan
Residents welcomed the completion of the bridge and hope authorities will open it before the Ramzan festival.
“This ROB will provide huge relief to residents. Authorities have also built a separate pathway for pedestrians on the flyover,” said Mohammed Khadeer, a social worker.
Another resident, Md. Sayeed, said people had waited several years for the project. “We have waited for this bridge for a long time. It will greatly help commuters in this area,” he said.
Shaik Faheem, a resident of Mailardevpally, said locals had started celebrating the completion of the project. “With fuel prices increasing, such shortcut routes will help people save time and fuel,” he added.
