Shamshabad soaked as RGIA records 53.3 mm rainfall

HYDERABAD: Heavy to intense showers lashed the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) and Shamshabad belt on Saturday, with the airport recording 53.3 mm of rainfall, the highest reported total in and around Hyderabad during the spell.
Rainfall varied sharply across Hyderabad and its outskirts
The rain remained largely localised, with wide variations in rainfall totals across the city and surrounding areas.
Mailardevpally recorded 12.8 mm, followed by Keesara with 10 mm and Sivarampalle with 8.5 mm.
Balapur and Mamidipalle received 6 mm each, while Rajendranagar recorded 5.8 mm.
Southern and southeastern areas bore the main spell
The distribution indicated that the October 3 rainfall was concentrated over southern and southeastern parts of Hyderabad rather than being widespread across the city.
A weather update issued on October 3 pointed to scattered intense showers around Hyderabad Airport, Shamshabad, Balapur, Mamidipalle, Pahadi Shareef, Sivarampalle, Budvel and Rajendranagar.
The showers came soon after Telangana’s southwest monsoon season ended with a 17% deficit. The state received 615.5 mm of rainfall against the seasonal normal of 740.6 mm between June and September.
