Former BRS MLA’s son arrested at Hyderabad Airport in Praja Bhavan case

PUNJAGUTTA: Former BRS MLA Shakil Aamir’s son, Raheel, alias Sahel, who had been evading arrest, was apprehended by Hyderabad police early this morning at Shamshabad airport.
Raheel Aamir has been on the run since allegedly escaping police custody following an accident near ‘Praja Bhavan’ on December 24. However, Punjagutta police detained him after his arrival at the RGI airport from Dubai and shifted him to the police station.
Dismissing reports claiming Raheel was nabbed from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, Bandari Shobhan, the Inspector of Panjagutta police said, “As per the court orders, he surrendered himself at the police station here on Sunday night. We produced him in court, and he was sent to 14 days of judicial remand.”
The development comes two days after the Telangana High Court revoked the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him by the Punjagutta cops.
With this arrest, 15 out of the 16 accused persons in this case are now in custody. This includes former Panjagutta SHO Durga Rao, who allegedly assisted Raheel in absconding in an attempt to falsely present an unrelated individual as the accused in the case.
Former MLA Shakeel, who was also named as accused of allegedly attempting to cover up the accident, continues to be on the run.
Raheel Aamir’s current arrest is not his first involvement in controversy. In March 2022, he was reportedly involved in an SUV accident in Jubilee Hills that led to the death of a two-month-old child and injuries to four others.
Now, in light of the Praja Bhavan hit-and-run case, DCP Vijay Kumar has announced that the Jubilee Hills incident will be re-evaluated to determine Raheel Aamir’s involvement. He also emphasized that there will be no political interference in the investigation, stating, “Any police official found favouring the accused in such cases will also face strict action.”
