Residents request execution of works for sewage overflow in Shaikpet

Listen to Story

Shaikpet: Residents of Shaikpet have been facing severe chronic sewerage problems for over three months. Despite multiple requests to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), delays in the execution of emergency works have left the community in distress. In response to ongoing complaints, HMWSSB officials and its Managing Director have called for urgent rectification of sewage overflow to prevent polluted water supplies in various locations within O&M Division-III, Zone-III.

To address these longstanding issues, the government has outlined several proposed projects for sewerage improvements, including:

  1. Laying and Jointing of 300mm Dia Sewerage Pipeline: From Hanuman Kirana Store, Vinayak Nagar, to 8-1-68/5024 near Peace City under Shaikpet Section, SD-I of O&M Division-III. Estimated cost: Rs. 23.00 lakhs.
  2. Remodeling of 200mm Dia Sewerage Pipeline: By laying a 250mm Dia SWG pipeline from H.No. 8-1-68/1 to H.No. 8-1-08/2 at Shaikpet Section, SD-1 of O&M Division. Estimated cost: Rs. 6.90 lakhs.
  3. Remodeling of 200mm Dia Sewerage Pipeline: By laying a 250mm Dia SWG pipeline from H.No. 8-1-08/27 to 8-1-68/35/1 near Vinayak Nagar, Shaikpet Section. Estimated cost: Rs. 7.55 lakhs.
  4. Remodeling of 200mm Dia Sewerage Pipeline: By laying a 250mm Dia SWG pipeline from H.No. 8-1-618/43 to 8-1-68/52 near Vinayak Nagar under the Shaikpet Section. Estimated cost: Rs. 4.90 lakhs.

Ajay Kumar Maryala, a resident and representative of the Vinayak Nagar Welfare Association, expressed his frustration with the Hyderabad Mail. “We have been facing severe sewerage issues consistently. We submitted our concerns to Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who acknowledged our representation on March 12, 2024. We have also reached out to Principal Secretary MA & UD, Dana Kishore, and submitted grievances through the CM’s Prajavani service,” he stated.

Ajay, the resident noted that following the Managing Director of HMWSSB’s instructions, the Director of Operations was tasked with overseeing the necessary works as of August 22, 2024. “Since then, we have been in constant communication with the Director Projects, who advised us to coordinate with General Manager Project Division VIII, Anantha Laxmi Kumar, regarding the developmental works,” he explained.

He also stated, “We met with MLA Karwan, Kausar Mohiuddin, to obtain his consent for the work. Despite these efforts, execution has been inexplicably delayed.”

Ajay Kumar Maryala also requested that the Director of Projects and the General Manager of P.D. 8 be instructed to expedite the execution of the proposed works. The chronic sewerage problem has caused significant distress for our community for far too long.

As residents await action, the urgency of resolving these sewerage issues remains a pressing concern for the Shaikpet community.
