Major thunderstorms, gusty winds to lash Telangana over next 48 hours

HYDERABAD: Large parts of Telangana are likely to witness a spell of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning during the next 48 hours, according to a weather alert issued for May 26-27.

The alert said south, central and western districts of the state are expected to experience widespread thunderstorms, with central and southern Telangana identified as the core hotspot. Wind speeds may reach up to 60 kmph, while rainfall of 50-60 mm is likely in several places.

Residents have been advised to remain alert for lightning strikes during the period.

In northern Telangana, scattered thunderstorms are expected, accompanied by gusty winds of up to 50 kmph. Rainfall between 20 mm and 30 mm is forecast in some areas, along with lightning activity.

Hyderabad may receive up to 40 mm rain

Hyderabad is also likely to witness widespread thunderstorms over the next two days. Rainfall of up to 40 mm is expected at a few locations in the city, the alert said.

The forecast indicated that storm activity could affect several parts of the city, with further updates expected as weather conditions evolve.

Heatwave to continue in northern Telangana

Despite the thunderstorm forecast, severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue in northern and eastern parts of Telangana.

Maximum temperatures in these regions may range between 43°C and 46°C. Hyderabad is likely to record temperatures between 40°C and 42°C during the period.

Authorities have advised people to take precautions against both heat-related illnesses and lightning risks.
