Severe cold grips India; IMD warns next three days

HYDERABAD: Unusually intense cold conditions are being reported across India, with temperatures dropping to levels not seen in the past decade, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The cold wave is widespread, affecting almost all regions rather than isolated pockets. Officials said this season is witnessing extreme lows following a period marked by heavy rainfall and unusually high maximum temperatures earlier.
Cold wave breaks decade-old records
Meteorological officials said the severity of the cold is likely to break records of the past 10 years. The India Meteorological Department warned that intense cold conditions will persist for the next three days across large parts of the country.
Cold winds are also expected to continue in some regions until the second week of January, officials added.
Telangana sees fog, single-digit temperatures
Telangana is witnessing particularly severe cold conditions, with dense morning fog reported in several areas. Hyderabad Meteorological Centre officials said the cold wave is expected to continue for the next few days.
People are restricting outdoor movement due to biting cold, while commuters have been advised to exercise caution due to low visibility in foggy conditions.
Single-digit minimum temperatures have been recorded in several locations, including Adilabad, Patancheru, Medak, Hyderabad, Hanumakonda, Ramagundam, Dundigal, Hayathnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Bhadrachalam and Mahabubnagar.
Residents in these districts are facing significant discomfort due to the persistent cold wave.
