Senior Congressman’s open letter to CM Revanth Reddy on HYDRAA demolitions
Hyderabad: At a time when the Opposition party leaders are targeting the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government for empowering the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to clear unauthorized encroachments on the government lands near water bodies, senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao has said the Telangana chief minister is free to order the demolition of his farmhouse.
In an open letter, Rao said as a responsible citizen he and his family would comply with the anti-encroachment law and take responsibility for removing any encroachments at their own expense.
The Congress leader has a farmhouse in Aziznagar, Ranga Reddy district. Rao said the HYDRAA authorities are free to demolish any part of his farmhouse if it is found within the Full Tank Level (FTL) or buffer zone.
The Congress leader also said that his family members are convinced that their property is not within the FTL or buffer zone.
“I made it clear that if there is any construction even an inch within the FTL or buffer zone, my family will demolish it and clean up the area within 48 hours without burdening the government,” he stated.
Rao has suggested the enforcement agency notify them about the likely demolition drive so Opposition leaders and media can witness the compliance of government rules in action. He requested the authorities to maintain transparency in marking the boundaries of the said structure.
“I don’t want any exemptions from the law. Treat me like any ordinary citizen and let the law take its course,” he added in his letter.
Senior Congress member extended his support to the state government for taking up the Musi riverfront development project. He said it’s high time the administration started cleaning the polluted river and later on undertaking the beautification project. He said as a committed Congressman he supports all development projects of the Revanth Reddy government as long as they do not harm poor people.
