Sec’bad idol vandalism: Raja Singh under house arrest, Madhavi Latha detained
Hyderabad: Hyderabad police placed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)‘s Goshamahal MLA, T Raja Singh under house arrest and detained party leader Madhavi Latha and others for staging a strong demonstration over the alleged vandalism of Muthyalamma temple at Secunderabad.
An idol at Muthyalamma temple near Secunderabad’s Regional Passport Office (RPO) and behind Vijaya Healthcare was allegedly vandalised in the wee hours of Monday, October 14, 2024, sparking significant unrest among local residents.
Since then, BJP leaders and party workers have been staging protests at the temple demanding stringent action against those responsible.
The detained BJP leader Madhavi Latha said the police did not allow her to protest against the vandalisation of the Hindu deity’s idol and they were taking her to the jail for raising her voice against the vandalism.
Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, who was prevented from visiting the site, said the police have declared the perpetrator as mentally deranged. He questioned how come such people don’t see any dargahs but only temples? He demanded a thorough investigation into the case as attacks on Hindu worship places have increased in recent days.
Earlier, Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy visited the temple and assessed the damage to the idol.
He told the reporters that the culprit did not come here to steal anything but to insult the Hindu society. He said some people are doing this deliberately to create communal disturbance in Hyderabad. Every temple in the city should be equipped with CCTV cameras and pickets should be deployed in sensitive areas, he added.
