Hyderabad ganja smuggling case

HYDERABAD: Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP), the Eagle team of Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) on December 5 arrested two men accused of transporting dry ganja from Berhampur in Odisha to Mumbai. Officers seized 6.863kg of ganja worth ₹3,43,150 and two mobile phones during a joint surprise check at Secunderabad railway station.

A-1 Muna Prusty alias Muna Kumar, 20, of Brahmamchhai village in Ganjam district, and A-2 Tikash Kumar Barik alias Babu, 23, of Amroli GIDC in Surat, were intercepted on platform 10 when the Konark Express arrived around 11.40 IST. Police said both were carrying the contraband in a trolley suitcase.

Plan hatched to exploit buyers’ addiction

Investigators said A-1 and A-2, who hail from the same locality in Odisha, had been working in different states for livelihood. While A-1 was employed in Mumbai, two Mumbai-based consumers  identified as A-4 Jayesh and A-5 Shubam  were seeking ganja.

A-1 allegedly told the Mumbai buyers he would procure it at ₹15,000 per kg and collected ₹30,000 as advance. He later travelled to Surat, briefed A-2 about the plan, and the duo procured 7kg of dry ganja from A-3 in Berhampur on December 4.

They boarded the Konark Express that evening and were travelling towards Mumbai when GRP teams intercepted them at Secunderabad. Both accused allegedly confessed to possessing the ganja during questioning at the platform.
