Ministry of Railways approves new biweekly express train from Secunderabad to Goa
Hyderabad: In an announcement for travelers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Ministry of Railways has approved a new biweekly express train connecting Secunderabad to Vasco da Gama in Goa. This service, numbered 17039/17040, addresses long-standing issues of limited options and overcrowding on existing routes.
Previously, passengers faced inconvenience as trains originating from Secunderabad merged with those from Tirupati at Guntakal, forming a single service for Goa. Additionally, some coaches from Kachiguda joined the Shalimar-Goa train at Guntakal.
The new train service is a response to a letter sent to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in March 2024, highlighting the consistent high demand and overcrowding on existing routes. The project gained momentum under the renewed term of the Narendra Modi government, with Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw approving the proposal after overcoming delays due to election notifications.
The Secunderabad-Vasco da Gama biweekly express will operate on a convenient schedule, departing Secunderabad on Wednesdays and Fridays. Return journeys from Vasco da Gama will be on Thursdays and Saturdays.
The train will cater to passengers in various locations, making stops at Secunderabad, Kachiguda, Shadnagar, Jadcherla, Mahbubnagar, Gadwal, Kurnool City, Doni, Guntakal, Bellary, Hospet, Koppal, Gadag, Hubballi, Dharwad, Londa, Castle Rock, Kulem, Sanvordem, and Madgaon before reaching its final destination, Vasco da Gama in Goa.
This much-needed service is expected to significantly reduce the burden on existing routes and provide a more comfortable and convenient travel option for residents of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh traveling to Goa.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, who is also the MP for Secunderabad, took to a social media platform ‘X’ and previously known as Twitter to announce the launch of the biweekly express train, generating excitement among travelers.
