Three arrested for East Marredpally apartment robbery in Secunderabad

HYDERABAD: Police arrested three members of a robbery gang involved in a house robbery at Arihant Sadan Apartment in East Marredpally, Secunderabad, recovering gold ornaments worth about ₹ 4.5 lakh, officials said on January 27, 2026.
The arrests were made in a joint operation by the Commissioner’s Task Force, Secunderabad Zone, and Lalaguda police station. The accused were apprehended during the early morning hours near Secunderabad Railway Station, along with the stolen property.
Police said the robbery took place at the residence of Sharath Naresh, where the accused allegedly confined and assaulted a woman and robbed gold ornaments weighing about nine tolas. A case was registered as Crime No. 17/2026 under Section 309 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Lalaguda police station.
Accused details and seizure
The arrested accused were identified as Gurrappagari Mahesh, 36; Chinnakotla Pavan Kumar alias Bavanna, 48; and Geeju Surendra, 37, all natives of Cheekirevulapalle village in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh.
Police seized a gold beads chain weighing 18.15 grams, a gold finger ring of 3.15 grams, and a gold bangle of 7.52 grams, totalling about 28.8 grams. Two mobile phones — POCO C71 and POCO M7 — were also recovered.
Inside job planned after returning to native place
According to police, Mahesh had earlier worked as a watchman at Arihant Sadan Apartment from October 2021 to May 2024 and was familiar with residents’ movements and access points. After returning to his native village, he allegedly planned the robbery with his associates to fund what police described as lavish expenses.
On January 21, 2026, Mahesh and Pavan allegedly entered a third-floor flat, threatened the complainant, and robbed the gold ornaments. They later fled to Secunderabad, met the third accused, and travelled to Karnataka, where the stolen property was shared before they dispersed.
Criminal antecedents
Police said Mahesh is involved in two kidnapping cases registered at Karkhana police station in 2024. Pavan Kumar is allegedly involved in a murder case reported in Bengaluru in 2019.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakshitha K. Murthy, along with senior officers of the Secunderabad Zone and Task Force.
