Second Chance Foundation: Jasper Paul becomes saviour for Hyderabad’s homeless

Hyderabad: Life can be tough, especially for those who have nowhere to turn. But Second Chance Foundation, an NGO led by young Jasper Paul is changing that by giving hope to people who have lost everything.
Paul and his team rescues sick, homeless and abandoned individuals and provides them with a shelter home run by their foundation in Hyderabad.
It all began with a single, life-changing moment in 2014. 19-year-old Jasper Paul, an engineering student, was living a passionate life like many others his age. He was a motor enthusiast. One day, he met with a tragic accident on a highway. He escaped the accident unhurt, however, his car was badly damaged due to the impact of the collision. This horrific accident made Paul a firm believer in the ‘Second Chance’.
A few weeks later, Paul happened to pass through the same road where the freak accident occurred. He noticed a nonagenarian abandoned old lady in a filthy state with worms crawling on her body. He thought for a moment and then decided to help her because he had been saved and it was then he found a purpose in his life.
The young social activist got her admitted to a hospital where she was treated and provided necessary medical care. He shot a video of the whole incident and shared it on social media. The video went viral and helped the old woman reunite with her family as they were desperately searching for her.
Recently, a 90-year-old woman named Kashamma was found abandoned on the streets near Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. She was left abandoned by her five sons. Moved by her plight, locals were providing her with food and water. When Jasper came to know about her, he immediately shifted her to Second Chance Foundation where she is receiving proper care and treatment.
After carrying out the rescue and rehabilitation work for three years, Paul got his NGO – Second Chance Foundation (SCF) – registered in 2017 as he believes everybody deserves a second chance in life. The foundation provides a shelter home for the destitute individuals and also helps them rehabilitate and rebuild their lives.

Over the years, a team of over 20 employees at SCF, including volunteer doctors, has rescued more than 2,500 people from the streets of Hyderabad. Paul is joined by his wife Theresa in his noble mission. Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and restore dignity to the abandoned, elderly, and homeless while ensuring that no one dies alone or helpless on the streets.
In 2022, the non-profit organisation opened its own medical centre – Second Chance Mission Hospital at Sainikpuri, where founder Jasper, his wife Theresa and a group of doctors and medical staff provided medical care to the rescued individuals as well as the general public. However, no services are currently being offered at the medical facility.
Initially, the NGO faced challenges in meeting the financial needs of the shelter home. As the team remained focussed on their work, donors started helping them run the organisation. Besides general donors, Jasper is also raising funds through crowdfunding platforms such as Milaap, DonateKart, and Ketto.
