SEC orders probe after ballot papers found in Nalgonda drain

NALGONDA: Ballot papers linked to Chinnakaparthi gram panchayat in Chityala mandal of Nalgonda district were found in a drainage canal, triggering concern over election material security.

Ballots marked with symbol found discarded

The ballot papers, bearing votes marked for the scissors symbol, were spotted in a drain, leading to confusion and allegations of negligence. Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders lodged complaints with election officials and police.

SEC seeks action against negligent staff

Following the complaints, the State Election Commission ordered an inquiry into lapses in safeguarding election material. SEC secretary Makarand Deshpande directed Nalgonda collector Ila Tripathi to take action against those responsible.

The collector has already suspended the Stage-2 returning officer in connection with the incident.
