Hyderabad: In view of the redevelopment project, six platforms at the Secunderabad Railway Station have been closed for nearly 130 days, railway officials said on Tuesday.

As per the available information, the platform 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 have been temporarily shut down for passengers. Authorities have requested the people to take note of these temporary changes and check train details in advance to avoid inconvenience.

With the help of a huge 500-tonnes capacity heavy-duty crane, the redevelopment works are underway on platform numbers 5 and 6. The gap between both the platforms has been filled with sandbags.

Amidst the platform closures, at least 60 trains operating on different routes have been diverted to Charlapalli, Kacheguda, and Hyderabad (Nampally) railway stations. Most of these trains will be operated from Charlapalli to decrease the load on Secunderabad railway station.

The 151-year-old Secunderabad railway station is being redeveloped as part of a modernisation project at a cost of Rs. 720 crore.

The station will have terminal buildings on northern and southern sides. Each building will be ground plus three (G+3) floors, a double-storey sky concourse, two 7.5-metre-wide travelators on either side, 26 lifts, 32 escalators, two wide footbridges, and multi-level and underground parking facilities. Facilities such as restaurants, kiosks, escalators, lifts, foot over bridges, etc will be made available on the concourse.
