Listen to Story

Hyderabad: As the month of January kicks off with Sankranti festival, the students and parents are eagerly anticipating the upcoming school holidays. A short vacation is awaited for educational institutions particularly schools in Hyderabad and other districts.

The schools will remain closed for Sankranti festival from January 13 to 17, 2025 and the educational institutions will reopen on January 18, according to the academic calendar for 2024-25 released by the School Education department.

The students will get a seven-day extended Sankranti vacation, as January 11 is a Second Saturday while January 12 will be Sunday. However, the students may not get to enjoy their vacation to the fullest as the formative assessment exams are scheduled to begin soon after the holidays are over.

Even though Sankranti holidays will commence from January 13 for schools, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education has not announced the vacation dates yet.

Earlier, the Telangana government announced a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj, a religious observance involving a devotional night vigil, which is observed on the 27th of the Islamic month of Rajab. However, the January 28 holiday has been listed under optional holidays and not as a general one. Only minority-run educational institutions will remain closed on January 28.
