Sangareddy police arrest burglary accused in 106 cases

SANGAREDDY: A joint team of the Central Crime Station (CCS), Sangareddy, and Gummadidala police arrested a burglary accused allegedly involved in 106 theft cases and recovered 22.5 tolas of gold, 60 tolas of silver and ₹25,000 in cash. The accused was remanded to judicial custody.

Accused allegedly targeted locked houses

Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj said the accused, Kotapalli Chandri alias Shekhar of Mahabubnagar, has theft cases registered against him in Sangareddy, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts. Police said he began committing burglaries in 2007 and allegedly used the proceeds to lead a lavish lifestyle.

Fresh thefts after release on bail

Police said Chandri was arrested by Medipally police in 2024 and lodged in Cherlapally Central Jail, where he remained for 14 months. He was released on bail on October 17, 2025, and allegedly resumed committing thefts within three days.

According to police, the accused has been sent to judicial remand 19 times and has served sentences in more than 25 cases. Investigators said he continued to target locked houses and homes occupied by women living alone.

Police alleged that during the past eight months he committed 26 burglaries under the limits of Miyapur, Dundigal, Gummadidala, Hatnoora, Pocharam IT Corridor, Patancheru, Abdullapurmet, IDA Bollaram, Vanasthalipuram, Genome Valley, Shameerpet and Keesara police stations.
