Congress, BRS split Sangareddy civic polls; close contests in Zaheerabad, Jinnaram

SANGAREDDY: The municipal results in Sangareddy district produced a split verdict, with Congress securing clear majorities in several towns and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) retaining dominance in key industrial pockets. A few municipalities saw close contests, setting the stage for political negotiations.

Congress registered decisive victories in Andole-Jogipet, winning 16 of 20 wards, Narayankhed with 11 of 15 wards, and Sadasivapet with 16 of 26 wards. In Sangareddy municipality, the district headquarters, the party won 22 of 38 wards to emerge as the single largest party.

The results underline Congress’ strength in traditional and semi-urban centres.

BRS maintained its hold in industrial and fast-growing municipalities. It secured 14 of 18 wards in Gaddapotharam and won 15 of 22 seats in Gummadidala. The party also performed strongly in Isnapur, winning 12 of 26 wards, and Indresham with nine of 18 wards.

BJP, AIMIM, Independents influence select wards

Zaheerabad witnessed one of the closest contests. BRS won 15 wards while Congress secured 14. BJP won three wards, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) two, and Independents three, resulting in a fragmented verdict.

In Jinnaram, BRS secured eight wards, Congress six, BJP four and Independents two, indicating a multi-cornered contest.

In Kohir, Congress won eight wards, BRS five, BJP one, AIMIM one and one Independent candidate.

Across municipalities, BJP secured pockets of influence, particularly in Jinnaram and Zaheerabad. AIMIM’s presence remained limited to select wards in Sangareddy, Kohir and Zaheerabad. Independent candidates also won in Isnapur, Sangareddy and Zaheerabad.

Overall, the results point to a competitive political landscape in Sangareddy district’s urban local bodies, with Congress and BRS emerging as principal contenders and smaller parties influencing outcomes in select municipalities.
