Sanathnagar TIMS Gets 180 Doctors on Deputation
HYDERABAD: The state government has deputed 180 doctors to the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Sanathnagar as preparations gather pace for the hospital’s launch later this month.
The Director of Medical Education issued orders on Thursday appointing specialists, senior residents and junior residents from 10 government medical colleges and hospitals across the state. All 180 doctors have been directed to report to TIMS immediately.
Government fills staffing gaps before opening
Of the 180 doctors, 98 are specialists while 82 are senior and junior residents. The government has also adjusted 40% of the required nursing staff from existing hospitals.
Although infrastructure at the 1,000-bed facility is largely ready, recruitment of new doctors and paramedical staff has not been completed. Officials appear to have opted for deputation to ensure the hospital becomes operational on schedule.
The hospital requires around 300 doctors and more than 600 support staff to make all 1,000 beds functional. Initially, the plan is to make available 30 beds in each department.
Existing hospitals may face service pressure
A large share of the doctors deputed to TIMS has been drawn from Osmania Hospital. More than 30 of the 98 specialists have been transferred from the hospital, along with over 25 senior and junior residents.
From Gandhi Hospital, 20 specialists and seven senior residents have been deputed. The remaining doctors have been sourced from other government hospitals.
Osmania and Gandhi hospitals are already witnessing heavy patient inflows. The deputation of doctors could affect medical services at both institutions, as existing manpower shortages may worsen.
