HYDERABAD: With the Sankranti festival approaching, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar has urged city residents travelling to their native places to inform the police before leaving.

Inform police before locking homes

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sajjanar said residents planning to lock their homes and remain away for several days during the festival holidays should mandatorily alert their local police station.

He noted that many families travel during festivals, which could be exploited by burglars. If residents inform the nearby police station or beat officer in advance, police personnel will keep a special watch on the houses as part of routine patrolling, he said.

Store valuables in bank lockers

The commissioner advised residents not to leave cash, gold or other valuables at home while travelling. He recommended keeping them in bank lockers or other secure locations, adding that basic precautions can help prevent thefts and ensure a peaceful festival.

Police committed to preventive policing

Sajjanar said modern policing was not limited to responding after crimes but also focused on preventing offences in advance. He added that the police department was committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of homes during the festival season, stressing that public cooperation was crucial.

He asked citizens to dial 100 immediately in case of emergencies.
