GHMC takes action on Safdar Nagar waterlogging after Hyderabad Mail report

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken prompt action following Hyderabad Mail’s report on severe waterlogging in Safdar Nagar, Hyderabad.
Ranjith Kumar M, an assistant engineer with GHMC, responded to Hyderabad Mail’s post, saying, “Due to continuous rains, the water reached full tank level in Mysamma Cheruvu, leading to inundation in surrounding areas. Our machinery and teams are actively working to reduce the water level in the lake. The water levels are receding, and the inundation was cleared the day after the incident.”

Earlier, Hyderabad Mail reported that heavy rains had caused significant waterlogging in Safdar Nagar, severely inconveniencing residents. This situation led residents to call for immediate intervention from the GHMC and the Disaster Response Force (DRF) emergency team.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, local resident MA Ahmed expressed frustration over the unresolved issues. “Rainwater continues to accumulate in Safdar Nagar, particularly where the nala is open. The roads are in poor condition, and there are no box-type rainwater harvesting provisions. Additionally, many nalas lack proper mesh, and several lanes are in a deplorable state with low-hanging electric wires. Immediate action is needed,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed also highlighted multiple problems in the area. “Our requests for official visits have been ignored, as Safdar Nagar is considered a remote area. Despite its dense population, it remains neglected in terms of infrastructure. The rainwater remains uncleared, and the area’s infrastructure issues are longstanding.”
He further noted that Safdar Nagar, situated near the developed areas of Hi-Tech City, Kukatpally, and Jubilee Hills, is experiencing severe problems. Additionally, a large pipeline running through the area regularly accumulates trash, and the dividing fence between Kukatpally and Safdar Nagar is deteriorating.
