RRR alignment changes worry villages in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Residents of several villages along the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Telangana have raised serious concerns over repeated changes to the project’s alignment and the resulting uncertainty over land acquisition and compensation.
During recent visits to the affected areas, local representatives observed deep anxiety among farmers who said they were unable to plan their livelihoods because of shifting alignment maps over the years.
Uneven ORR–RRR distance questioned
Villagers pointed out that the radial distance between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the proposed RRR varies sharply across the northern and southern stretches. While the northern section lies roughly 25 km from the ORR, the southern section extends beyond 40 km. Residents argued that this inconsistency has led to hardships for specific villages and called for a clear technical explanation.
Small farmers face high impact in Ranga Reddy, Medak
In Thommidirekula village in Keshampet mandal of Ranga Reddy district, farmers said they fear losing nearly 200 acres of agricultural land. The village spreads across 1,480 acres and has about 1,550 farmers, most of whom own less than an acre. Villagers said the impact falls almost entirely on small and marginal farmers dependent solely on agriculture.
In Reddipalli village in Narsapur mandal of Medak district, residents alleged that the alignment has been altered several times, benefiting influential landholders while leaving only small farmers affected. About 56 acres belonging to 57 farmers are being acquired, villagers said.
Multiple projects add to pressure in Medak
Farmers in Medak district said the RRR is only one of three ongoing land acquisition challenges. Canal works under the Kaleshwaram project and construction of a new railway line are also affecting the same communities, creating cumulative distress and uncertainty.
Villagers seek resurvey and transparent criteria
Residents demanded clarity, uniform radial planning wherever feasible, and consultations with local communities before the alignment is finalised. They requested the Ministry to release a transparent report detailing the technical criteria behind alignment changes.
They said a comprehensive resurvey would help restore public confidence and allow the project to proceed in a fair and sustainable manner.
