Why Royal Spice Restaurant in Gachibowli was shut by food safety officials
HYDERABAD: The Commissionerate of Municipal Corporation (CMC) Food Safety team ordered the temporary closure of Royal Spice Restaurant near ZPHS School in Gachibowli after an inspection on June 11, 2026, revealed multiple food safety and hygiene violations.
The inspection was conducted as part of ongoing food safety monitoring across the Cyberabad region.
Officials reported heavy pest infestation in the kitchen. They also found food accumulation, water stagnation and foul odour in the wash area, kitchen and dining section of the restaurant.
Several sanitation lapses detected
The inspection team noted that walls and windows were unclean and poorly maintained. Excessive use of food colours in food preparation was also observed.
Officials said the restaurant failed to produce certification for potable water used in cooking. Open dustbins were found placed near food materials, increasing the risk of contamination.
Meat destroyed, closure ordered
During the inspection, food safety officials destroyed meat that was allegedly stored under unhygienic conditions.
In view of the violations and the potential risk to public health, the establishment was ordered to remain temporarily closed until further orders.
According to the hygiene assessment conducted during the inspection, the restaurant obtained 20 marks out of a total score of 96, translating to a hygiene percentage of 18%.
Under the hygiene rating criteria, establishments scoring above 90% are categorised as good, those between 50% and 90% receive improvement notices, while outlets scoring below 50% are liable for show-cause notices or enforcement action.
CMC officials said regular inspections of restaurants, kitchens, eateries and other food establishments would continue across Cyberabad to strengthen hygiene standards and safeguard public health.
