Revenue officials mark encroachments along Musi River areas

Hyderabad: Days after the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) clarification on clearing the rampant encroachments on the riverbed and banks of Musi River, the Revenue officials were seen gathering details about the structures constructed on the riverbed.

The officials teams visited several areas along the Musi River and its catchment areas including Kishan Bagh, Asad Baba Nagar and Nandi Musalai Guda localities of Bahadurpura constituency and Chaderghat, Musarambagh and Shankarnagar and collected details from the residents.

It is said nearly 386 houses were identified and marked during the survey in Kishan Bagh, Asad Baba Nagar and Nandi Musalai Guda areas. The Bahadurpura police stood guard to avoid any untoward incident during the survey process.

According to Musi River Front Development Corporation, the officials have identified nearly 2,116 structures on the riverbed while 7,850 dwellings were built in the buffer zone. Municipal administration and urban development principal secretary Dana Kishore, who is also the managing director of Musi River Front Development Corporation, told reporters that the State government will rehabilitate the affected residents.

Earlier, the Congress government has announced that nearly 16,000 double-bedroom houses will be allocated to affected residents after the evacuation drive is completed along the river.

As part of the Musi River Front Development project, the Telangana government will develop a 55-km stretch with amusement parks, children’s watersports and business arenas along the river. The Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had said the government will form a tourism circuit by connecting all the historical structures in the vicinity of the Musi River such as Charminar, Qutub Shahi Tombs and Golconda.
