Professor Jayashankar is the real Father of Telangana, not KCR : Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said that Professor K. Jayashankar, not former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, deserves to be recognised as the real Father of Telangana. He stated that Jayashankar’s intellectual leadership and sustained advocacy for statehood shaped the Telangana movement long before it translated into political power, underscoring his central role in the creation of the state.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday set the tone for the upcoming municipal election campaign by launching a sharp attack on BRS chief and former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, accusing his government of neglecting urban development, farmer welfare and employment, and of misusing power.
Addressing a public meeting in Miryalaguda after launching development works, Revanth Reddy said that despite complaints from local bodies about lack of funds, the Congress government had spent more than ₹17,000 crore on municipal development over the last two years.
Poll pitch and welfare claims
The chief minister said financial assistance under the Rythu Bharosa scheme would be credited after the municipal elections. The assurance comes amid complaints that farmers were denied assistance under the scheme twice in the first year of the Congress government and that support for the Yasangi season had not reached beneficiaries even by February.
Urging voters to judge the Congress on its two-year record, Revanth Reddy predicted that the BRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party would forfeit their deposits in several places. He claimed welfare schemes were being implemented without discrimination, citing distribution of fine rice through ration shops and farm loan waivers.
Allegations against previous regime
Revanth Reddy accused the previous BRS government of tapping phones of politicians, journalists and film actors, even as a Special Investigation Team probe into the allegations is yet to reach a conclusion. He went on to state that BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao should have been treated like criminals and presented before the media with their faces smeared.
The chief minister also objected to the portrayal of Chandrashekhar Rao as the “Father of Telangana”, arguing that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Prof K. Jayashankar deserved greater credit for the formation of the State.
He further alleged that the BRS failed to provide jobs to unemployed youth and claimed that Chandrashekhar Rao had constructed a residence for himself on 10 acres at Punjagutta at a cost of ₹2,000 crore. Revanth Reddy also accused the previous government of delaying the Srisailam Left Bank Canal works, which he said contributed to the tunnel collapse in February 2025.
