Hyderabad Metro Phase-II: Revanth Reddy seeks Centre’s nod, faster takeover of Phase-I
HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has written to Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and G. Kishan Reddy, urging the Centre to grant early approvals for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project and expedite the transfer of Phase-I operations to the state government.
In separate letters, the Chief Minister referred to key decisions taken during high-level meetings held on June 23 and 24, 2026. He said timely approvals were essential to ensure the smooth implementation of the Metro expansion and facilitate the state’s plans for the existing network.
Financial roadmap for Metro expansion
Revanth Reddy requested the Union government to appoint SBI Capital Markets Ltd (SBICAPS) as the nodal agency for the next stage of the project. He said the agency should be entrusted with valuing Phase-I assets, refinancing high-interest loans and preparing a comprehensive financial plan for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II.
The Chief Minister said a coordinated financial strategy would help reduce borrowing costs and support the expansion of the Metro network.
State seeks quicker transfer of Phase-I operations
The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to speed up the process of transferring Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I operations to the Telangana government. He said the move would enable the state to manage both the existing corridor and the proposed Phase-II project more effectively.
The letters stressed the need for early action on the decisions taken during the June meetings to avoid delays in implementing the Metro expansion plan.
