Revanth Predicts Congress Sweep, Says Party Will Win 117 Seats in Telangana
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday predicted that the Congress would win 117 of the proposed 182 Assembly seats in the next Telangana Assembly elections and return to power for a second straight term.
Addressing the Rythu Aashirvada Sabha in Chintakani, Khammam district, Revanth said, “I am predicting the election results 36 months in advance, swearing on Bhadrachalam Lord Rama. Congress will win 117 out of the 182 Assembly seats and form the government for a consecutive second term.”
He challenged Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K Chandrashekhar Rao to note down the prediction. “Keep your fake survey agencies in mind. We will work 18 hours a day to make this happen,” he said.
The Chief Minister used the meeting to launch the Congress campaign for the next Assembly elections. He said the political landscape would change after the proposed delimitation exercise.
According to Revanth, the next General Elections are likely to be held in May or June 2029 instead of December 2028. He said Telangana’s Assembly strength would increase from 119 to 182 seats, while Lok Sabha representation would rise from 17 to 26 after delimitation.
Rejecting private surveys that favoured the opposition, Revanth called them a “Band-Baaja batch.” He questioned how survey agencies could predict results before reservation boundaries and constituency limits were finalised.
Chief Minister targets BRS
Stepping up his attack on the BRS, Revanth said the political “Kurukshetra” had already begun.
He recalled the induction of Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy into the Congress in July 2023. He credited the people of Khammam with defeating the previous BRS government.
“You voted out the forces of sin and confined their leader to his farmhouse,” he said. He also urged Congress workers to defeat the opposition politically.
The Chief Minister claimed divisions within the Kalvakuntla family had weakened the BRS. He alleged that family members no longer trusted one another.
Targeting senior BRS leader T Harish Rao, Revanth criticised his demand to operate pumps at Kannepally despite concerns over the Medigadda barrage.
He said filling the reservoir before completing safety measures could put Bhadrachalam and nearby areas at risk. He also alleged that the previous government’s handling of the project had flooded 44 villages in Khammam district.
Welfare schemes and national ambitions
Revanth also alleged that the BRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were working together. He challenged Harish Rao to swear on K Chandrashekhar Rao that he would never join the BJP.
He further claimed that BRS MLC K Kavitha had hinted at a possible merger between the BRS and the BJP. He also alleged that contractors from Andhra Pradesh had funded the BRS with hundreds of crores of rupees.
Defending his government’s record, the Chief Minister said the Congress had continued existing welfare schemes while launching new ones.
He listed the continuation of Shaadi Mubarak, new ration cards, supply of Sanna Biyyam (fine rice), 200 units of free electricity for households, Indiramma housing, enhancement of Rythu Bharosa assistance to ₹12,000, and implementation of the crop loan waiver.
Looking ahead to the next Lok Sabha elections, Revanth urged party workers to win 20 of the projected 26 parliamentary seats from Telangana to help Rahul Gandhi become Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister also announced a government engineering college for Madhira after Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka requested it.
