Revanth Reddy orders more MMTS trains, seeks strict schedule adherence

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to increase the number of Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) services during peak office hours and ensure strict adherence to schedules to improve reliability.
Reviewing MMTS operations at the Legislative Council Hall, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to strengthen suburban rail connectivity in Hyderabad’s core urban areas.
Ridership decline raises concerns among officials
Reddy sought explanations from officials over the decline in MMTS ridership and stressed the urgency of making services more commuter-friendly. He said improving reliability and convenience was key to attracting passengers back to the system.
Connectivity gaps limit commuter access to stations
Highlighting a key issue, the Chief Minister noted that many MMTS stations lack proper road connectivity. He pointed out the absence of RTC bus services to several stations, especially those located away from main roads.
He suggested exploring mini-bus services to improve last-mile connectivity and ensure easier access for commuters.
Better amenities seen as key to boosting usage
Reddy also directed officials to upgrade passenger amenities at MMTS stations. He said improved facilities would encourage more commuters to opt for suburban rail services, thereby increasing ridership.
The Chief Minister asked officials to explore avenues to enhance internal revenue and develop a comprehensive plan covering connectivity, passenger growth, and infrastructure upgrades. He instructed them to submit a detailed report at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, senior state officials, and representatives of South Central Railway.
