Revanth Reddy Proposes Lowering Mla Eligibility Age To 21

HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy said former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi lowered the voting age to 18 to empower youth, and now the time has come to reduce the minimum age for contesting Assembly elections from 25 to 21. Speaking at the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Commemoration Day at Charminar on Sunday, he said the state government would soon move a resolution in the Assembly in this regard.

“When IAS and IPS officers serve the country at 21, why can’t youth contest elections at the same age?” he asked. Revanth said a constitutional amendment by Parliament would further encourage youth participation in politics.

Gandhi family sacrificed lives for unity, says Revanth

Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he said they sacrificed their lives for India’s unity. “Those who killed Mahatma Gandhi were more dangerous than the British,” he said, adding that the Gandhi family has worked for peace and harmony for three generations. He stated that Rahul Gandhi aimed Bharat Jodo Yatra at uniting the nation and added that Telangana implemented caste census and Scheduled Caste sub-categorisation inspired by his leadership.

Calls BRS BJP’s B-team, alleges secret pact in bypolls

Revanth accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of colluding against Congress in the Jubilee Hills bypoll. “BRS has become BJP’s B-team”. He alleged that both parties deny 42% reservations for backward classes.

Later, the chief minister inaugurated the Sadar festival organised by Sri Krishna Sadar Sammelan at NTR Stadium. He praised the Yadav community for its role in Hyderabad’s development and said Sadar had been recognised as a state festival after Congress came to power. He promised welfare and political representation for the community.

The organizers presented the Rajiv Sadbhavana Award to former Union minister Salman Khurshid. Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and senior Congress leaders attended the events.
