HYDERABAD: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to immediately nominate two Telangana government officials to a proposed joint committee with the Centre to fast-track the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project.

Centre awaits state nominations for joint Metro committee

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Kishan Reddy said the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had informed him that the committee, comprising two officials each from the Centre and the state, could not be convened as Telangana had not yet forwarded its nominees.

He said the committee was agreed upon earlier to coordinate the takeover of Metro Phase-I from Larsen & Toubro and to prepare groundwork for Phase-II.

Phase-I takeover key for Phase-II approvals

Kishan Reddy said he met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on January 14, during which the Minister reiterated that the Telangana government must complete the takeover of Metro Phase-I from L&T, including all agreements, decisions and financial transactions, before further action on Phase-II.

The Union Minister also recalled that the Centre had already agreed in principle to the construction of Metro Phase-II, subject to the completion of the Phase-I takeover process.

Call to speed up Metro expansion

Kishan Reddy requested the state government to expedite the takeover of the Metro network from L&T and submit Phase-II proposals to the Centre at the earliest to ensure early execution of the project.

He said swift action was necessary to address Hyderabad’s growing traffic challenges and to improve urban transport infrastructure.
