CM Revanth Reddy escapes hotel lift mishap unhurt

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy narrowly escaped from a potential mishap at the Novotel Hotel in Shamshabad on Tuesday.

According to sources, the chief minister had arrived to attend a party meeting at the hotel. He entered the lift to go to the second floor. A few other MLAs also joined him. The elevator, which has a maximum capacity of eight people, was overloaded with nearly 13 persons.

Consequently, the elevator developed a technical glitch, began descending instead of moving upward and stopped midway between the ground and first floor, which led to panic among the MLAs and officials.

The hotel staff acted swiftly after getting alerted by the chief minister’s security personnel. They managed to safely open the elevator doors and evacuated those trapped inside one by one. The chief minister stepped out unhurt and he was subsequently escorted to the second floor using a different elevator.

The hotel management issued a statement expressing regret over the incident and assured that special precautions would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Later, the chief minister departed for Bengaluru from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). He is scheduled to board a flight to Japan this evening.

A delegation led by chief minister Revanth Reddy is visiting Japan from April 16 to 22, 2025. He is accompanied by IT and Industries minister D Sridhar Babu and a team of officials. During the tour, the chief minister will open a Telangana pavilion at Osaka World Expo to seek foreign investments and industrial and technological cooperation with the Telugu state. The delegation is scheduled to visit Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
