NIRMAL: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday appealed to people to vote for development in the forthcoming municipal elections, expressing confidence that the Congress would win the polls and retain power in the next Assembly elections.

Addressing the ‘Praja Palana – Pragati Baata’ public meeting in Nirmal, the chief minister said he would speak politics only during elections and keep development at the centre of governance. “There is no politics in development. Our only agenda is people’s welfare,” he said.

No personal agenda, says CM

Reiterating that he had no personal agenda, Revanth Reddy said he would meet Narendra Modi as many times as required for Telangana’s development. He urged BJP Members of Parliament from the state to support efforts to secure pending central funds. “Let us work together to get Telangana its due,” he said.

Taking aim at the opposition, the chief minister said the present government was bearing the burden of mounting debts incurred during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime. He alleged that BRS leaders were intolerant of development initiatives and welfare measures. “Those who ruled for ten years cannot tolerate good work being done now,” he said, adding that his government would focus only on governance, not political attacks.

Tummidihatti barrage plan

Revanth Reddy said irrigation in the erstwhile Adilabad district would be strengthened through the Tummidihatti barrage. He directed irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy to submit the detailed project report before the start of the budget session of the Assembly. “Every drop of water will be utilised to develop Adilabad, which was neglected earlier,” he said.

The chief minister announced a slew of measures for the district, including a 10,000-acre industrial park and plans for an airport. He said the industrial park would boost regional industrial growth. He also said Adilabad would receive funds on a par with Palamuru district.

Listing steps taken since the Congress government assumed office in 2023, Revanth Reddy said a university sanctioned earlier to Adilabad would now be established at Basara IIIT. District in-charge minister J Krishna Rao was asked to make arrangements, while senior leader Sudarshan Reddy was asked to hold review meetings in the first week of February to prepare development plans.

The chief minister also highlighted welfare initiatives such as Indiramma houses, free rice to white ration card holders, ₹500 cooking gas cylinders, 200 units of free electricity for poor families, free RTC bus travel for women, and interest-free loans to women’s self-help groups.

Earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Chanaka Korata pump house and the Sadarmat barrage.
