Residents raise concerns over illegal warehouse construction in Nallagandla

Hyderabad: Residents of Nallagandla and the MANA Nallagandla Welfare Association have raised concerns about the illegal construction of a warehouse in their residential complex. The residents submitted an application during the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Prajavani meeting, urging authorities to take action.
The application highlighted that the Nallagandla Residential Complex, developed by HMDA (formerly HUDA) in 1987, consists of approximately 2,656 plots spread across 306 acres. The complex was originally designated for residential purposes. However, the residents have noted a growing trend of residential plots being converted for commercial use, leading to several unauthorized constructions that violate layout regulations.
In their application, the residents specifically pointed out issues such as commercial rent properties, road digging, and the illegal construction of a warehouse on Plot 8718. They requested an inspection by the GHMC Engineering Team to address these concerns.

Eswar, a local resident, expressed his concerns to Hyderabad Mail, stating, “For the past six months, a warehouse has been under construction without proper approvals, covering about 500-600 square yards.” He noted that the narrow 30-foot road in the area cannot accommodate large vehicles. “If the warehouse is completed, lorries will be able to access the area, which poses a security threat to the residents, especially women,” he added.
Eswar also warned that the completion of the warehouse could encourage other commercial developments to follow suit. “We have already raised this issue with GHMC officials. However, the construction temporarily halts when GHMC inspects the site, but once the inspection is over, work resumes,” he said, adding that the warehouse could be completed by the end of the week.
The residents are now planning to protest against the illegal construction. “This land was allotted for residential use, and with a 30-foot road, permission should not have been granted for a warehouse,” Eswar stated, highlighting concerns over women’s safety and the impact on the community.
