Hyderabad: P&T Colony Residents Allege Harassment, Seek Help

Hyderabad: Residents of P&T Colony have expressed serious concerns regarding the growing presence and activities of transgender individuals in their locality, claiming that it has led to significant distress among families, particularly women and children.

In a letter addressed to Saroor Nagar police, the residents of P&T Colony Welfare Society have acknowledged the rights and dignity of the transgender community. However, they also highlighted several challenges being faced by the residents.

Among the major complaints are incidents of “indecent behavior in public spaces,” harassment of residents, especially women and children, and alleged solicitation for immoral activities, particularly near residential areas.

Speaking with Hyderabad Mail, M Ashok Kumar, President, P&T Colony Welfare Society, expressed concern that the presence of these individuals has created an atmosphere of discomfort in the colony.

While we respect the rights of the transgender community, however, the instances of indecent behaviour and nuisance during night time are impacting the peace of the residents of the colony, Kumar said. He added that several complaints had been filed with the police, but no concrete action had been taken on them.

The residents have appealed for increased police patrols to monitor and prevent what they describe as “undesirable activities.” They have also called for regular checks and raids to identify and apprehend individuals engaging in illegal activities that may be taking place within the colony.
