MP reports repeated hacking attempts on Gmail account

HYDERABAD: Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury has lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police in Basheerbagh, alleging repeated attempts to hack her official Gmail account and other linked digital services.

Phishing mails mimic Netflix login to steal data

In her complaint to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime Police Station, Chowdhury said her primary account, chowdhury.renuka@gmail.com, had faced several unauthorised access attempts. She added that phishing mails posing as Netflix service providers were also received, with fake login pages designed to capture credentials.

Chowdhury further stated that some attempts resembled “digital arrest tactics,” raising concerns about the potential misuse of her personal and official data.

“Given the seriousness of the matter, I request you to kindly look into the matter and take appropriate action under the relevant provisions of the law to ensure digital safety,” she said in her representation.

The complaint included screenshots of the phishing attempts and other details. Cybercrime officials confirmed receipt of the complaint and said it would be investigated.
