RBL Credit Card holder in Hyderabad duped by cyber fraudsters, total loss Rs. 1.7 Lakh

Hyderabad: A 32-year-old man from Hyderabad has become the victim of cyber fraud, losing ₹1,77,580 (Rupees One Lakh Seventy-Seven Thousand Five Hundred Eighty only) from his RBL Credit Card.

According to the cybercrime police, the victim received a text message (SMS) containing a link purportedly from CP-GLACRE (the mobile number was not displayed). Believing it to be a reward notification from his RBL Credit Card, the man clicked the link and downloaded an app named “RB REWARDS.”

Unaware of the app’s malicious nature, the victim filled in all the requested information. However, upon submitting his details, he received multiple OTPs (One-Time Passwords) within minutes. Even though he did not share any OTPs, fraudulent transactions were initiated, leading to debits totaling ₹1,77,580 from his RBL Credit Card.

Cybercrime officials suspect the app contained malware that enabled the scammers to access the victim’s credit card details. The victim promptly contacted RBL Credit Card customer care and reported the fraudulent activity, leading to the blocking of his card.
