Rashmika Mandanna says ‘I’m from Hyderabad’, faces backlash

Hyderabad: Tollywood actress Rashmika Mandanna has come under fierce criticism from her fans from Karnataka for saying she was from Hyderabad. The clip of her recent statement is gaining traction on social media with many accusing her of disowning her roots.
At a promotional event for her latest film ‘Chhaava’, which was attended by her co-actor Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika revealed that, “Because I’m from Hyderabad, and I have come alone and today I hope I am a part of all of your family.”
However, the Animal actress’ comment did not go down well with many from Karnataka as several social media users asked, “When did Rashmika become a Hyderabadi?”
Sharing her video clip, an X user wrote, “I sometimes feel pity for you for receiving unnecessary negativity/targeting from our fellow Kannadigas. But when you make statements like this, I think they are right, and you deserve the backlash.”

“It’s a bigger market, so a smart career choice over loyalty,” another wrote.
While others defended the actor and reminded the netizens of her 2024 statement in which she spoke highly of her love for Coorg.
“She always claims she is from Coorg & wears Kodava sarees. U people bring out any clip without context & blame her. She meant she is staying in hyd now, she came from hyd to mumbai with a broken foot. Otherwise 1000 other times she said she’s from coorg!” he wrote.
Rashmika Mandanna made her debut with Kirik Party in 2016 in the Kannada film industry and she worked in five Kannada films before crossing over to Telugu cinema. The Chhaava actress was born in Virajpet and grew up in Coorg. The actress has not responded to the controversy yet.
