SECUNDERABAD: The long-pending construction of the Ranigunj Road Under Bridge (RUB) has finally received clearance, with officials planning to begin work within the next 10 days. The project had remained pending for nearly two-and-a-half years due to various reasons.

Authorities have already taken up road repair and development works on alternative routes to facilitate traffic diversions during the construction period. Proposals for the Ranigunj RUB and the Sanathnagar RUB were prepared earlier, and the tender process was completed. Railway authorities also deposited the required funds into the designated accounts.

However, work could not commence as the traffic police had withheld permission, citing concerns over severe congestion in the busy Ranigunj and MG Road areas.

Traffic plan reviewed earlier this year

The project was originally scheduled to begin on January 20. Secunderabad Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police Avinash Kumar, along with railway officials, inspected the site and reviewed traffic conditions.

Traffic Additional DCP Ramulu, Traffic ACP Srinivas, and traffic inspectors Shobhan Babu and Venkata Reddy of Mahankali and Gandhinagar police stations also examined diversion plans and possible one-way routes to minimise inconvenience to commuters.

Despite the review, the project did not move forward over the past six months. Following fresh directions from senior officials, the traffic department has now initiated steps to grant the required permissions for construction.

Road repairs underway on diversion routes

Officials said the condition of roads identified for traffic diversions was not satisfactory. As a result, repair and improvement works were taken up before implementing the diversion plan.

Once these works are completed, traffic diversions will be enforced and construction of the RUB will begin.

Railway officials have informed the traffic department that the project is expected to take six months to complete, Mahankali Traffic Inspector Shobhan Babu said.

According to the proposed traffic plan, vehicles travelling from Paradise towards Karbala Maidan will be diverted from Bombay Hotel through the Ranigunj Adavayya Chowrasta route. Vehicles coming from Tank Bund and Karbala Maidan towards Paradise will be allowed to proceed directly.

Heavy vehicles will not be permitted on the stretch and will be diverted from CTO Junction. Officials said traffic diversion plans may be modified based on ground conditions after construction begins.
