Future City police register case against temple EO over animal sacrifice allegations

HYDERABAD: Allegations of widespread ritual animal sacrifice at a Rangareddy district temple have prompted police to launch a criminal investigation. Perhaps for the first time, the Temple Executive Officer has been booked by the Future City Commissionerate police.
Following this development, Abulapuram Goutham, Manager at the Stray Animal Foundation of India, filed the complaint. He told police on May 16, 2026, that he received information about around 500 animals being sacrificed each week at the Sri Maisamma Goddess Shivalaya Ramalaya Temple in Maisigandi Village, Kadthal Mandal.
To verify these claims, Goutham said he visited the temple on May 14, 2026, at about 3:50 PM. During his visit, he claimed he saw two goats being sacrificed on site.
Additionally, the complainant accused the temple Chairman of facilitating the sacrifices and claimed that official tokens were issued for the rituals. He requested legal action against the temple management and the Executive Officer, Snehalatha.
Subsequently, after receiving the petition, Kadthal police of the Future City Commissionerate registered a case. The case was filed under Section 325 with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which covers causing grievous hurt by an unlawful assembly, and under the Telangana State Animal Sacrifice Prohibition (TSABSP) Act.
