RANGAREDDY: Elections to the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) in Ranga Reddy district are expected to be closely contested this time. The district has 21 ZPTC positions, with an equal number of Mandal Parishad presidents to be elected.

Chairperson post reserved for SC woman

The post of Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad chairperson has been reserved for a Scheduled Caste (SC) woman. Both the ruling and opposition parties are determined to capture this key position. Ruling party leaders from Vikarabad and Ranga Reddy districts are reportedly strategising to ensure their family members occupy the chairperson’s seat.

Sources said a senior leader from Vikarabad, whose family votes are registered in Ranga Reddy district, has already begun groundwork towards this goal.

High competition for reserved seats

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has allotted 50% reservation for women in local bodies, resulting in nine ZPTC and MPTC seats being earmarked for them. Among these, Kandukur and Shabad — both reserved for SC women — are witnessing intense competition across all parties.

In addition, several SC women are expected to contest from general and SC-general constituencies, with leaders actively supporting them.

Family politics drives local ambitions

Ranga Reddy district is considered a stronghold of the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the BJP, and aspirants from all three parties are keen to test their luck.

A leader who narrowly lost the last Assembly election is planning to field his wife for the ZP chairperson post from his native mandal. Another MLA is reportedly backing his daughter-in-law, while a senior leader is said to be considering his daughter’s candidature.
