Ranga Reddy court sentences retiree to 21 years
RANGA REDDY: A special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act sentenced a retired government employee to 21 years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹30,000 for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl with an intellectual disability.
Father’s complaint leads to police action
According to district courts liaison officer P. Narsimha Reddy, Oosa Venkatanarayana, 84, a native of Huzurnagar in Suryapet district who later settled in Chaitanyapuri, committed the offence in March 2023.
Police said the accused allegedly lured the girl to his house with biscuits and chocolates and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. After growing suspicious, the girl’s father, with the help of local residents, lodged a complaint with the police. The accused was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Court awards compensation to survivor
Delivering the verdict on Friday, Special POCSO Court Judge Padmavathi convicted the accused and sentenced him to 21 years’ imprisonment. The court also awarded ₹4 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
